A silent wish I had as growing up was to be able to take pictures, capture the moment.
It wasn't until I took a photography course as an elective in college that I really began to understand how the great photographers came to capture those perfect moments.
Those great works by Ansel Adams demonstrated how he mastered grey balance, how Karsh perfected light, and how Weston made nudes seem not so nude, but artwork. How
important shutter speed and aperture,
fill light and color of light would be in the final product. It is a lonely world inside a dark room but out of which comes great pictures. Now that digital is taking over, and I have to
admit how much easier it is to point, shoot and upload the picture, my real love is in the dark room, watching the
pictures appear before you in the solution is almost magical and in that instant you know if you have a great picture or a throwaway. Even though digital is falsely creating would-be
photographers, what is not being taught is the importance of background, lighting and cropping.
